Research & Impact
Honors Research
Earth Systems engages students with social-environmental questions using interdisciplinary knowledge, tools, and frame works drawn from the natural sciences, economics, anthropology, ethics, and public policy. The program embraces this kind of interdisciplinary approach in recognition of social-environmental challenges as complex phenomena emerging from human activities interacting with Earth’s physical, chemical, geological, and biological systems. The Julie Kennedy Public Service Scholar Awards (JKPSS) recognize students who have engaged in meaningful public service activities, either on their own or through established organizations, related to their Earth Systems studies. Julie Kennedy Public Service Scholars have demonstrated exceptional commitment to public service in an environmental context through their course work, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work and research.
