Sarah is a coterm in Earth Systems. For two years, she was the kitchen manager of the Tri Delta house and led the kitchen sustainability movement for the entire Stanford Row. After impressive successes in her junior year, Stanford ResEd and dining services asked Sarah to teach a staff training to all students living in self-op and co-op houses to maximize sustainability. Sarah was motivated by the meaningful changes she helped drive on the Row and inspired her to continue to educate others about planetary stewardship as a TA for a course on the farm this year. Sarah’s service goes beyond the Stanford community, too. This summer, she served as the interim farm manager for a 3-acre experimental farm on the Cal Poly San Luis Obisopo campus. Amid the pandemic, she organized a task force of over twenty students to continue to produce food and care for livestock. She also worked with various stakeholders to plan and fundraise for for an educational garden in downtown San Luis Obispo. This garden will be a place for visitors to learn about sustainable food and agriculture, meet with friends, and inspire future environmental scientists!
