Tucker Matta (B.S. '22)

Main content start

November 19, 2020

Tucker (they/them) has been passionate about public service since coming to Stanford. They became involved with the Sunrise Movement through their Bay Area and Palo Alto chapters and started a new chapter for Stanford in their sophomore year to mobilize students and faculty. After the chapter became integrated into the greater Silicon Valley Hub, Tucker led a 10-week Emerging Leaders Development Program to train high school students to engage with climate justice work, and they now work as Hub Coordinator. Recently, Tucker has been deeply involved with the issue of equitable transit and has been working on the campaign to save Caltrain through measure RR, which passed due to contributions at Stanford and beyond. Through Earth Systems, Tucker plans to hone their skills in sustainable food systems to contribute to innovative research and justice-oriented work surrounding agriculture and its environmental and human rights implications, staying focused on grassroots movements. They will continue emphasizing the needs of their own queer and Latino communities through their work and to fight for black and Indigenous rights through their ongoing education and service.
